Super Latke October 6th

The 10th Super Latke Brunch-Lunch-Dinner with Spectacular Bake Sale will be held on Sunday, October 6th from 11:30 - 6:30 pm.
The menu will feature tuna salad, egg salad, herring, challah, mini cheesecakes and all the latkes you can eat.
Adult tickets are $10, children under 12 are $5. Carryouts available.

Simchat Torah & Shabbat Services

Congregation Beth Shalom invites everyone - especially children - to our Simchat Torah & Shabbat Services on Friday, September 27 at 6:30 pm. A special holiday oneg will follow the service.

Wednesday, September 18: 5:30 pm - Erev Sukkot Service followed by Federation Picnic.  FREE
Thursday, September 19: 10:00 am - 1st Day Sukkot Service
Friday, September 20: 6:30 pm  - Shabbat & Sukkot Service with holiday music. Jacqui Kalin will speak after the service about her experiences at the Maccabiah Games in Israel.

Shabbat under the Stars

Everyone is welcome to attend Shabbat Services for Friday, July 12th, which will be held at the Stone State Park Lodge at 6:30 pm. A dairy potluck will follow. Linda Scheid, Siouxland Food Bank Director, will join us for the culmination of our No-Dinner Dinner Fundraiser for the Food Bank.

Mitzvah Day April 28th

Come and perform an important mitzvah with your friends from Congregation Beth Shalom! Join us in the National Day of Jewish Service. We will be donating our time and energy to paint a house.
Date: April 28, 2013. Rain date is June 9th.
Place: 3524 Court Street
Time: Suggested: 1st shift - 9:30 - 12:30 includes a light lunch. Second shift - 1:00 - 4:00 pm. Come anytime.

4th Annual Sioux City Jewish Film Festival

The Fourth Annual Sioux City Jewish Film Festival will feature two films:
Habermann will be shown Thursday, April 11th at 7 pm at Congregation Beth Shalom. Based on true events, the film dramatizes the expulsion of 3 million Germans from Czechoslovakia.

HAVA NAGILA be shown Sunday, April 14th at 2 pm at the Betty Strong Encounter Center. The Center is located on the Missouri Riverfront: exit 149 off I-29. Hava Nagila, the movie, is a documentary romp through the history, mystery and meaning of this great Jewish standard.

Both films are free and open to the public.

2013 Tolerance Week

Tolerance Week, sponsored by the Gerald L. & Kathleen A. Weiner Foundation, is celebrating the 8th year. All events are free and open to the public.

First Night Seder

Congregation Beth Shalom will celebrate the Passover Holiday at a Kosher Seder on Monday, March 25th at 6:30 pm. Special Passover services include:
Tuesday, March 26 - 9 am Morning Service with Torah & Haftorah Reading
Tuesday, April 2 - 9 am Passover & Yizkor Service (10 appx)
Passover will also be celebrated at CBS Minyans and Shabbat Services.

2013 Goldstein Lecture

The 2013 Goldstein Scholar, Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, will present a free lecture on Thursday, March 21, 2013 in the Yockey Room, Olsen Student Center on the Morningside College Campus.
Levine, a professor of New Testament and Jewish studies at Vanderbilt University Divinity School and College of Arts and Sciences, will speak on "Jesus, Judaism and Jewish-Christian Relations."
The lecture is free and open to the public.
