Friday, September 20: 6:30 pm  - Shabbat & Sukkot Service with holiday music. Jacqui Kalin will speak after the service about her experiences at the Maccabiah Games in Israel.

Shabbat under the Stars

Everyone is welcome to attend Shabbat Services for Friday, July 12th, which will be held at the Stone State Park Lodge at 6:30 pm. A dairy potluck will follow. Linda Scheid, Siouxland Food Bank Director, will join us for the culmination of our No-Dinner Dinner Fundraiser for the Food Bank.

Mitzvah Day April 28th

Come and perform an important mitzvah with your friends from Congregation Beth Shalom! Join us in the National Day of Jewish Service. We will be donating our time and energy to paint a house.
Date: April 28, 2013. Rain date is June 9th.
Place: 3524 Court Street
Time: Suggested: 1st shift - 9:30 - 12:30 includes a light lunch. Second shift - 1:00 - 4:00 pm. Come anytime.

4th Annual Sioux City Jewish Film Festival

The Fourth Annual Sioux City Jewish Film Festival will feature two films:
Habermann will be shown Thursday, April 11th at 7 pm at Congregation Beth Shalom. Based on true events, the film dramatizes the expulsion of 3 million Germans from Czechoslovakia.

HAVA NAGILA be shown Sunday, April 14th at 2 pm at the Betty Strong Encounter Center. The Center is located on the Missouri Riverfront: exit 149 off I-29. Hava Nagila, the movie, is a documentary romp through the history, mystery and meaning of this great Jewish standard.

Both films are free and open to the public.

Tolerance Week, sponsored by the Gerald L. & Kathleen A. Weiner Foundation, is celebrating the 8th year. All events are free and open to the public.

First Night Seder

Congregation Beth Shalom will celebrate the Passover Holiday at a Kosher Seder on Monday, March 25th at 6:30 pm. Special Passover services include:
Tuesday, March 26 - 9 am Morning Service with Torah & Haftorah Reading
Tuesday, April 2 - 9 am Passover & Yizkor Service (10 appx)
Passover will also be celebrated at CBS Minyans and Shabbat Services.

2013 Goldstein Lecture

The 2013 Goldstein Scholar, Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, will present a free lecture on Thursday, March 21, 2013 in the Yockey Room, Olsen Student Center on the Morningside College Campus.
Levine, a professor of New Testament and Jewish studies at Vanderbilt University Divinity School and College of Arts and Sciences, will speak on "Jesus, Judaism and Jewish-Christian Relations."
The lecture is free and open to the public.

Chanukah & Shabbat Service

Congregation Beth Shalom invites you to Celebrate Chanukah with "Latke" Lights on Friday, December 14th at 6:30 pm. The service will include special holiday music provided by our Friday Night Live musicians. There will be a dairy potluck immediately following the service.
Come spin the dreidel and light the Menorah!

Brotherhood Shabbat

Please join us in honoring the men of Congregation Beth Shalom at Brotherhood Shabbat services, Friday, November 30th at 6:30 pm.

Parshat Noah Pet Blessing

Congregation Beth Shalom invites all members to bring their (friendly) pets for a blessing for health and happiness by the Rabbi. The blessing will take place on Sunday, November 4th at 11:15 am.
Kids and grownups alike really enjoyed meeting everyone's animals last year and pronounced the event a resounding sucess.

Congregation Beth Shalom & Sioux City Jewish Federation Annual Meeting

The 2012 Annual Meeting for Congregation Beth Shalom & the Sioux City Jewish Federation will be held on Sunday, October 28th. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be served at 5:30. The business meeting will begin at 6 pm. There is no charge for this event, but reservations are appreciated. Please call the office at 712-255-1990.

Super Latke

Congregation Beth Shalom invites everyone to attend our Super Latke Brunch-Lunch-Dinner and Spectacular Bake Sale on Sunday October 21 from 11:30 - 6:30 pm. The menu features:

CBS will again sponsor an "old fashioned" Yom Kippur Break the Fast. The main dairy items will be provided. We are asking for baked goods to be brought prior to Yom  Kippur. There is no charge, but please call the office to make your reservation.
                                         
       

Tisha B'Av Service

Congregation Beth Shalom  will conduct an Erev Tisha B'Av service on Saturday, July 28th from 8:00 to 8:45 pm.

Federation Picnic August 19th

The 2012 Jewish Federation will be held on Sunday, August 19th from 4:30 - 6:30 at Riverside Park - Pavilion 4. The rain site will be Congregation Beth Shalom.The Federation will provide the food and beverages. Everyone is invited to this free event.

1st Day Shavuot Service

Congregation Beth Shalom will observe the 1st Day of Shavuot with services at 9:30 am. A Yizkor service will be held at approximately 10:30 am. A holiday dairy kiddush will follow.
