Hillel the Elder was one of the greatest sages of the Second Temple period. Hillel sought to bring people closer to the Torah through his ethical, religious teachers which were preserved in a series of proverbs. Shammai, the founder of the great school of Bet Shammai, took a stringent attitute as compared with the more lenient one of Bet Hillel. We will compare and contrast their judicial teachings of Jewish law.
