Genocide Awareness Day

Sunday, March 31, 2019 @ Congregation Beth Shalom
12 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Admission is Free


Come & learn more about the history of genocide!  Interact with organizations that promote world peace and economic and social stability.  Congregation Beth Shalom and Morningside College students will display social action exhibits and projects.


2:00 - 3:00 p.m. -- Marisa M. Cummings, University of South Dakota Director, Native Student Services, will present information as it relates to the history, development and progress of Native American Genocide in America and throughout the United States.


Marisa Cummings has earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in American Studies from the University of Iowa and a minor in American Indian/Native Studies.  She is currently pursuing her Masters in Tribal Administration and Governance from the University of Minnesota Duluth.  Marisa also served as an administrator of Little Priest Tribal College and worked in diversity recruitment and retention efforts at the University of Iowa.  She has worked in higher education for over 12 years and is dedicated to indigenous traditional models of governance, education, food systems, ceremonies, and sovereignty.
